| | Last half year, I kept thinking "why I work more while make less".
In the hot Sunday afternoon, I played soccer with some brothers. During one of the timeout, one teen shares that he was looking for work. He said it doesn't matter what kind of work. He doesn't have a car yet, so any work that he can get to without car is good. Everyone just jumps into this discussion. Saying what kind of jobs he should take and not take. Is McD good enough? what about Q-cup? Starbucks? which job has better future and which one makes more money?
I start thinking does all these really matter to this teen. He is only been in this country a few weeks and he doesn't care all these issues. This is only a temp job to get by before he take school next year. I shared with him my experience in EA. I didn't earn much for the 3 months as game tester even working 10 hours+ a day. I didn't learn anything much and didn't even put this job on my resume. But I made friends, earn enough money to get by and had a great time.
As I was sharing with him, I realized that how miserable I behave at work in the last few months. Stress and work politics got the best of me. I made enemies not friends. I complained a lot and start slacking off. I need to think back how I worked in EA. Paycheck is still smaller than everyone else. Things may not be going your way. Management may not recognize your hard work. But all these shouldn't affect my work.
I should still work as hard. In this market, I should just be grateful to have a job. Be happy, enjoy the experience, make friends and work hard as good testimony, these are more important.
